Mother’s Day and Beyond

On Mother’s Day our Son Ray Came down for the day, and he brought dinner. He and I cooked scallops wrapped with duck bacon on skewers with onions and peppers also grilled asparagus and cuscus. Everything was ready on time and was delicious. Barbara loved it.

The rest of the week was uneventful. On Saturday Eileen and Larry came down from Florida, New York for a visit. They also came for the thrift sale put on by our community. They also came for the top part of our trundle bed for their grand daughter. We had a wonderful day with them. On Sunday our roof neighbors Doug and Stephanie invited us and our other neighbors Jack and Louise over for pizza. We shared a lot of stories and had a lot of laughs.

Today Barbara and I went on a short road trip to Montclair, New Jersey. First stop was The Presby Memorial Iris Garden (http://presbyirisgardens.org/wordpress/). I never saw so many irises in so many colors in my life. Along with other photographers there were some ladies drawing and painting, in water color, the irises. The iris beds cover maybe an acre of ground but it is very impressive. Here are about one third of the pictures I took while there.

Our second stop was Van Vleck House and Garden (http://vanvleck.org/). On our way to Van Vleck we stopped at a park we pasted and ate our picnic lunch Barbara had packed for us. At Van Vleck Gardens we saw a lot of Rhododendrons and Azaleas along with many other plants. We even saw a variety of Rhododendron that we had not seen before, it has smaller flowers but many more of them and they had not fully opened yet. I really liked finding a new variety. Enjoy the pictures.

Longwood Garden May 7, 2010

Today was our trip back to Longwood Gardens. We first made a stop at Brandywine River Museum (http://www.brandywinemuseum.org/) to renew our membership. While we were there we went upstairs to the see the exhibit on the Caldecott Medal Winners (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caldecott_Medal). Some of my favorite books from my son’s childhood were included in the display. Then we were off to Longwood. Two things we wanted to see, I wanted to see the display on composting and Barbara wanted to see the flower arrangement demonstration. We enjoyed our day and now you can enjoy my pictures.

This Weekend

Well this weekend was busy for Barbara and I. First on Friday I had volunteered to help setup the hall for the annual Quilt Show put on by the quilting club The Piecemakers. I went at 10AM and I left around 1:30PM and they were still putting quits up. More on that later.

On Saturday Barbara and I went to one of our favorite places, Winterthur Museum and Country Estate (http://www.winterthur.org/). Of course we got in for free with our American Horticultural Society membership. First we took the garden tram around to the Enchanted Forest and on the way we saw all the azaleas which were in full bloom along with many other early spring flowering trees and bushes. After walking around for a little while we got on the tram and headed to the house. We had brought our lunch so we found a shady bench and enjoyed our picnic lunch we had brought. We then went in to see the display on The Lost Gardens of the Brandywine. After that I wanted to go get some pictures of The Campbell Collection of Soup Tureens which is one of the permanent collections while Barbara went to see the orientation film. We then decided to take the introductory tour of the house. We had taken this tour before but it has been awhile so we took it again. I thought they had a no photograph policy so I put my camera in one of the free lockers that they provide, last time I make that mistake. They were having an small antique car show so while Barbara sat inside I went up the hill and took some pictures. Take a good look at the Ford Model T Town Car (the car with the velvet backseat) the tires are not just white walls, the whole tire is white. I certainly would not have to clean those tires. We had a lovely day.

The quilt show was Fantastic! I am just going to let the pictures speak for themselves. I could not decide which ones to include so I included all of them.
