Fredericksburg, Viginia

Today Barbara and I went to Belmont which was the home of Gari Melchers an American painter who was very successful during his life time (http://www.umw.edu/gari_melchers/). He produced a large body of work during his life time and after his wife died in 1955 she left the house and property and all it’s contents to the common wealth of Virginia. So the house contains all of the furniture, paintings and personal items from their life in Virginia. No pictures of inside the house but here are a few from the grounds and gardens.

From there we went down town to the James Monroe Museum. A small museum that covers James Monroe’s early life from before during and after the revolutionary war. On our way to the museum we walked past some interesting houses and a Mason cemetery.

Tomorrow will be the last day of our trip and we should be home sometime in the afternoon.
